In the framework of the V. Gödöllő Nature Film Festival, for the third time, the Trash Art program, a sculpture-building competition, was announced. The main topic was water, the basis of our being and future.
The organizers think – and in the spirit of the competition – that us people have an impact on the planet, in many ways. So what the future is for us and for the rest of the living beings depends only on us. These sculptures are the ambassadors for the environment . They show that instead of wasting and consuming euphoria, environmental awareness and long-term thinking are the cornerstone of the homo sapiens sapiens (“intelligent man”). The organizers hope that this artistic program will further broaden the tools for awareness-raising.
70 applications were received for the 2019 Trash Art Call for Proposals, of which the jury selected the 22 works that reached the final of the Festival and, as a result of this they were exhibited in the Castle’s Alsópark. The jury : https://www.trashart.hu/trash-art/zsuri/
The main aspects of the evaluation were to focus on the central topic, water, and to be able to shape the view, to use of recycled materials, and to be able to present, sensitize across the country. All of these are important elements of the evaluation, because the selected sculptures will be exhibited at outdoor venues (large-scale events, even at the sponsoring companies’ sites).
For the winners, the sponsors offered HUF 1,100,000, which was allocated on the basis of the rankings. The announcement of the results took place on the last day of the Festival, which attracted more visitors than ever, on the Day of Children, fortunately in bright sunshine.
First place in the “Mellőznivaló”(Thing to be avoided) by István Kollár. The work is a “floating” tap-shape from which PET bottles flow. The artist points out that we are wasting a lot of energy on the production and transport of mineral waters, while their recycling is only partially solved. We are in such a fortunate position that tap water rivals with the quality of bottled water, yet we consume too many bottled water with PET. The artwork draws attention to this and also realizes that we do not dispose of disposable bottles.
The second place was the “Connection” , the creation of the Aztakeservit Értékőr Egyesület of Dunaföldvár. The hook caught in the mouth of the salmon made with a cd, unfortunately, PET can be seen as a bait .
The “Faceless” ranked third, from used drinking straws – obviously an inexplicable and invaluable “finding” for future garbologists, which we all understand today ….
The jury’s special award went to the highly spectacular and thought-provoking “Noah’s Whale” it is giving protection to aquatic animals in its “ship” stomach – nowadays – which is almost always made of plastic.
The main sponsor of the event was the Ministry of Innovation and Technology.
